How to make homemade Mickey Mouse Beignets!

Have you ever tried the Mickey Mouse Beignets at Disneyland Park?  They are served by the bagful at the Mint Julep Bar and as a delicious dessert at Cafe Orleans in the beautiful New Orleans Square.

Disneyland Mickey Mouse Beignets

If you have never tried a Mickey Mouse beignet, they are like puffy doughnuts, served warm and absolutely coated in powdered sugar.  Regular beignets are little squares, but these are cut into a cute Mickey Mouse shape. They may be one of the messiest treats you have ever eaten (watch out for all of that powdered sugar – and avoid wearing black!), but they sure are worth it!

At the popular Mint Julep Bar in Disneyland Park, they often offer seasonal flavors of their beignets as well.  For example, during the holidays, they have Candy Cane flavor!  The warm puffs of dough are covered in pulverized candy cane sugar… yum!

Also, during the recent 50th anniversary celebration for the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction, Disney offered “Lost Treasure Beignets” at the Mint Julep Bar.  These were coated in gold sugar!  These were lemon-flavored and so pretty!

Since the Mickey Mouse beignets are one of my favorite Disneyland treats, I decided I just had to try re-creating them at home.  I knew this would involve deep frying, which I don’t do very often, but I had a feeling these would be worth the trouble.  I happen to have a Mickey Mouse cookie cutter but of course you could just cut the dough into squares and they would still taste amazing.

I have posted the recipe below with pictures of the cooking process.  The recipe ended up not being difficult at all and  I have to say that these Mickey Mouse Beignets turned out great! Super-delicious and tasted just like the Disneyland version.  Let’s just say my family was very happy – and covered in powdered sugar!
