Quality Quick Service: Satu’li Canteen

One of the newest Quick Service restaurants at Walt Disney World is the Satu’li Canteen inside Disney’s Animal Kingdom Park.  The Satu’li Canteen is part of the awesome land of Pandora.

Satu'li Canteen

As you wander around the amazing world of Pandora, you will soon come upon a structure that blends into the natural landscape.  This is Satu’li Canteen.

The interior is vast, with high ceilings and plenty of seating available.  Another great feature is the soda machines are located in the seating area – so you can refill your drinks during your meal!

Satu'li Canteen

Before you choose your seats, you are guided to an area to order your food.  The menus are on the digital boards and you are also handed paper menus to peruse as you wait in line.

The “Create-Your-Own Satu’li Bowl” is an interesting way to customize your meal.  First you choose a protein, then a base and then a sauce.  There are many delicious combinations you can ask for, so everyone in your family can get what they like.  The bowls are all served with crunchy vegetable slaw and yogurt boba balls.

Our first dish combined the “Slow Roasted Beef” protein with red and sweet potato hash topped with a creamy herb dressing.  This was so fresh and yummy.

Next, we had the chopped, wood-grilled chicken, over whole grain rice and topped with a flavorful charred onion chimichurri sauce.  Delicious.

A look at the renovated rooms at Disney’s Pop Century Resort

Disney’s Pop Century Resort, one of Disney’s Value resorts, is a great lower-cost options for Guests visiting the Walt Disney World Resort.  The rooms are small (260 square feet), but are clean, bright and well-appointed.  The renovated rooms at Disney’s Pop Century Resort make it a better option than ever before.

The resort itself is very large and amenities include three pools (the largest being the Hippy Dippy Pool), pool bar, jogging path, “Fast Forward” arcade, playground and a wonderful food court called “Everything Pop.”

As you walk into one of the renovated rooms at Disney’s Pop Century Resort, you will notice that there is one Queen bed along side a table and chairs.  Never fear – you will not be sleeping on the floor – that table hides a secret…

The decorating style is mid-century modern… clean and sleek.  There are plenty of room lights to keep everything bright.  Notice the laminate floors – no rugs.

The table is a great addition for Guests who would like to eat a meal inside the room (Pizza Delivery is available, or you may want to send an adult to pick up “to-go” options from Everything Pop).  It is also a nice place to do some work or let the kids do some coloring.

When it is bedtime, the cabinet easily pulls down to reveal a second Queen-size bed.  Pluto is already in snoozing.

The Pop Art goes well with the Pop Century theme.  Pluto in a Roy Lichtenstein style and the Mickeys are a nod to Warhol.

The space-saving bedside tables have useful shelves, plugs and usb ports.  Notice that there is no alarm clock.  Disney is phasing out alarm clocks since they find most Guests use their cell phones to check the time.

The “kitchen” area includes a mini fridge (the glass front is a nice touch… you can remember what you have in there without opening the refrigerator.  There is also a coffee maker and space for your own items.  This a nice space to keep your refillable drink mugs and snacks you might pick up in the parks.

We needed a pack ‘n’ play for our room and it fit fine between the refrigerator area and the room door.

The flat screen television is very large (especially considering the room size) and the fact that it is wall-mounted saves a lot of counter space.

The split bath area has a nice, deep sink but not much counter space.  The pocket doors to the shower/toilet room is a smart, space-saving touch.

There is a full bath/shower in these rooms.

The new shower head feels very upscale.

Here is another look at the sink/counter space.  There are shelves which do help when organizing your toiletries.

A small area to hang your clothes and a wall-mounted full-size ironing board.   The bottom shelves are a great place to contain “shoe clutter.”

Renovated rooms at Disney's Pop Century Resort

Overall, the room renovation at Pop Century really transformed the look and feel of the resort.  This is not simply a change of wall paint and comforters – the rooms are completely different.

It is clear that Disney put a lot of thought and effort into maximizing living space in an admittedly small square footage.  Disney’s Pop Century Resort is not a place we would recommend if you spend a lot of time in your resort room – but we know you are off enjoying the Parks all day!  The rooms are a comfortable place to regroup and refresh before setting out on your daily Disney adventures.

What do you think of the renovated rooms at Disney’s Pop Century Resort?

Say “Hello” to the Bon Voyage Adventure Breakfast

One of the newest character dining experiences at Walt Disney World is the Bon Voyage Adventure Breakfast at Trattoria al Forno Restaurtant.  This restaurant is located on Disney’s BoardWalk – part of Disney’s BoardWalk Resort and only a short walk from Epcot and Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Bon Voyage Adventure Breakfast

Our kids were especially excited for this breakfast because the featured characters are from two of our favorite Disney films… The Little Mermaid and Tangled.   Also fun is that Prince Eric and Flynn Rider were going to be there!  There aren’t a ton of other opportunities to see the royal couples in the parks.

Trattoria al Forno is a lovely Italian restaurant in the evenings (no characters), and the Bon Voyage Adventure Breakfast offers traditional morning fare along with some heartier, Italian-inspired brunch entrees.

And the kids’ menu…

When you arrive you will notice little cards on the table with the characters’ signatures… so if you forgot your autograph book, you still have a nice souvenir.

Also on the table is a frying pan (Remember the frying pan from Tangled?  We know Flynn Rider does!) filled with scrumptious, fresh-baked pastries.

These starters are so beautifully themed for this breakfast.  No standard cinnamon roll here! (Not that there is anything wrong with a Disney cinnamon roll!)  The muffins are tinted in “Ariel colors”.  The red of her hair, green fin, purple top.

This puff pastry sun cookie looks just like the sun Rapunzel painted in her tower.

This “oyster” treat is filled with raspberry jelly and is decorated with a beautiful pearl (sugar-coated chocolate!)

This chocolate twist is braided – a nod to Rapunzel’s beautiful braid.

To go along with the “Bon Voyage” travel theme of the breakfast, you are also treated to an “Adventure Journal”.   It prompts you to write about your travels and favorite things that you have experienced at the Walt Disney World Resort.  All four of the theme parks are featured on the map.

The “moms” are on vacation, so we had lovely adult breakfast beverages (these are an extra charge).  A peach bellini and a mimosa.  So delicious!

Kingdom_Planners_Disney_Bon_Voyage_Breakfast-15

We tried not to eat too many baked goods since our meal was arriving soon.  One of the “starters” was a Berry, Yogurt and Granola Parfait.  This was very good and the small granola bar on top was fantastic.  I couldn’t keep this one away from my daughter.

Kingdom_Planners_Disney_Bon_Voyage_Breakfast-21

The other starter was a fruit salad… nothing special but it is nice to have some fruit in the morning to start the day off on the right food.  The “sword” skewer was a cute touch.

Oh… who do I spy coming into the dining room?

Kingdom_Planners_Disney_Bon_Voyage_Breakfast-7

Prince Eric!

Following soon after is his love, the Little Mermaid herself, Ariel.

Have you explored the wonderful Disney Springs Christmas Tree Trail? There are so many places at Walt Disney World where you can celebrate the season.  You could spend a full vacation enjoying holiday decoration, treats and fun – without even stepping into one of the Parks.  The trail is open until January 7, 2018  – Monday through Thursday 12 noon to 10pm and Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays it is open from 10am to 10pm.

Disney Springs Christmas Tree Trail

You begin your tour of the Disney Springs Christmas Tree Trail near the play fountain outside the Once Upon a Toy store.  There you will begin your adventure – and you can enjoy the 25 beautifully themed Holiday trees.  Each of them is inspired by a Disney character or film.

I won’t spoil them all, but here is a peek at some of these special trees.

Of course, we have to start with Mickey and Minnie! It is so cute and colorful.  I love the polka-dot bow at the top of the tree – soooo Minnie!
